The Fayette County Historic Landmark Commission works to recognize, preserve, and promote the historic places, structures, and stories that help define Fayette County’s heritage. Through historic preservation projects, markers, and community partnerships, the Commission helps ensure that important pieces of Fayette County’s past are recognized and preserved for future generations.
The Commission has played an important role in preserving and celebrating Fayette County’s history, including the Marquis de Lafayette statue located on the Fayette County Courthouse grounds. Presented to the citizens of Fayette County in 2004, the statue serves as a lasting reminder of the county’s namesake and its connection to the American Revolution.
